Solicit public opinion about hazards through web-based surveys
Conduct a series of public meetings
Present the draft plan to residents and local officials via the web
Solicit public comment on the draft plan
Process
Include a risk assessment of potential hazards that could affect some or all of our citizens
Evalute risks posed by flooding, drought, extreme cold, extreme heat, snow, ice, hail, windstorms, tornadoes and other natural disasters
Focus on existing and future buildings, infrastructure and critical facilities, including shelters and hospitals; infrastructure includes power-generation facilities, water utilities, roadways, railroads and communication systems
Identify projects that can reduce damages from future natural hazards
Develop a hazard-mitigation strategy to reduce the vulnerability to these natural hazards
Create a detailed mitigation plan
